From Greenland to the Falkland Islands, an invention dreamed up in Shetland helps gardeners in the windiest of places grow a surprising array of crops. Welcome to the Polycrub story. This is the story of a successful business, but Polycrub wasn’t born in a boardroom or dreamed up in a business plan. These tough, semi-cylindrical greenhouses—built from durable polycarbonate and repurposed aquaculture piping—were created for one purpose: to help the community of Northmavine, at the northern tip of the Shetland Mainland, grow their own food. 🔗 Read more at our link in bio. #promoteshetland #shetland #visitshetland #shetlandislands #shetlandisles #inspiredbyshetland #shetlandtruenorth
The Ness of Burgi remains a mystery to archaeologists, offering only hints about its purpose and the people who built it. Getting to the site is as much of an adventure as visiting it. Starting near Scatness, the path leads toward the sea, passing farmland where sheep graze, bordered by dry-stone walls. Join Catherine Munro on her visit to one of Shetland's lesser known sites, link in bio!
Sailing around the coast of Shetland offers a beautiful combination of dramatic cliffs and natural harbours – many with good piers, slipways and marinas – so you can drop anchor anywhere and explore. Yachts have unrestricted access to all the islands and berthing fees are minimal. Discover Shetland's marinas here via our link in bio. 📷: @shetlandfromtheair
It's official, Shetland has just had its warmest July since the series began in 1884, according to the Met Office. But with Shetland’s weather being famously unpredictable, the best way to prepare is by dressing for all seasons—no matter when you visit.
