Established in 1948 as a research base for studying migration and the seabird colonies of Fair Isle.
A newly rebuilt Observatory reopened for the 2025 visitor season, to replace the previous building, which sadly burned down in 2019. You can keep up to date with the project and book accommodation on the Fair Isle Bird Observatory website.
