On the island of Unst, one of Shetland’s most exciting industries is emerging – space. At SaxaVord Spaceport, preparations are underway for the UK’s first vertical rocket launch, carrying satellites into orbit.
The development of world-class infrastructure and cutting-edge technology on the UK’s most northerly inhabited island is expected to create significant opportunities for the local community and across Shetland. It is estimated that up to 130 jobs in Unst and a further 200 across Shetland will be created.
In this film, Shetlanders Iona Leask and Bryden Priest, both of whom are building their careers at SaxaVord Spaceport, explain what it’s like to be part of Shetland’s growing space sector.
