Kayak Symposium

Over the weekend there are training sessions to support personal skills development from basic to advanced levels, plus guided trips to some of the best paddling venues around the isle.

The event is held every 2 years and will be at Voxter Outdoor Centre, Brae. The next event to be held in Shetland will take place in 2020.

There are a range of options so people can tailor their weekend to what they'd like to get out of it. Local paddlers are more than welcome to attend for whole or part of the symposium.

The weekend following, Shetland Canoe Club has an informal meeting based around the Voxter Outdoor Center, Brae and is known as The Shetland Paddle Meet. There is no formal tuition, it's all about trips and enjoying yourself.

Accommodation at the Voxter Center is booked for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, self catering facilities are available though Brae has a good selection of take away food outlets and is only two minutes away by car.

Of course, the paddling is only part of it and both weekends have a very social component. In previous years there have been quizzes, slideshows and informal music sessions.
