Well that's the annual Shetland Food Fair done and dusted for another year, and I have to say, from the bottom of my heart, I had an absolutely superb weekend!

On the Friday night the fair opened with a VIP reception complete with inspiring speeches by representatives of two of the sponsors - Northlink Ferries and the Highlands and Islands Enterprise. Shetland Transport was a third sponsor.

The Jarl Squad made an appearance, in true Shetland fashion, and burly bearded vikings with swords and axes strapped to their backs taste tested the finest produce Shetland has to offer while the Northmavine Fiddle and Accordian Club entertained us with live music.

This was followed by a superb cookery demonstration by Leith-born celebrity chef Tony Singh, pictured above. This photograph was taken by Misa Hay from Promote Shetland, who were the organizers behind the entire cookery theatre.

Throughout the Saturday and Sunday, visitors were treated to a wide variety of taste testings at each of the Shetland Food Producer stalls - from the new hot chocolate by The Shetland Fudge Company, the new Kishie relish from Shetlandeli, a new Lerwick IPA beer from the Lerwick Brewery, the new Frankie's Finest dry fish batter mix from Frankie's Fish & Chips, the new cream horn and cheese scone from Da Kitchen Bakery and a brand new bladder wrack infused gin from Shetland Reel Gin.

Local bakers, chefs and cooks demonstrated throughout the weekend, offering taste testings to the audience, and I know I certainly picked up quite a few cooking tips! You can find most of the recipes that were demonstrated and a little bit more about each of the cooks on the Taste of Shetland website.
