Make the most of your time indoors with some inspirational free online content from these Shetland creators...

Storytime with Marjolein

Marjolein is a comedian, improviser, storyteller and filmmaker. She's long been an ambassador for Shetland, sharing comedic insights about island life at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and gigs across Scotland. Each night at 8pm she shares a traditional Shetland folk tale, told with great animation and intrigue. A fantastic way to brush up on your Shetland dialect and hear some historic tales of old. Watch Marjolein's storytelling here and for more on Marjolein's work, visit her website.

Shetland Young Musician's Network

While we're all stuck indoors for the foreseeable future it means that social gatherings and traditional Shetland music sessions are sadly not possible. To keep the community spirit fostered by these musical get-togethers alive and to keep young folk engaged with playing, the Shetland Young Musician's Network has been set up. Tune in on Friday nights to hear youngsters from across the isles play traditional Shetland folk and fiddle music. Follow the Shetland Young Musician Network on Facebook.

Peerie Oorick stories

Ann Marie Anderson is an author who lives on the island of Whalsay. She's been reading stories online from her Peerie Oorick books, alongside her trusty sidekick Peerie Kenny. The stories are for bairns and written in Shetland dialect – ideal for those who want to hear Shetlandic in spoken form and for peerie (little) ones who enjoy a good story. Visit the Peerie Ooricks Facebook page.

Shetland Arts TV and Mareel

With Shetland's main arts venue Mareel closed for the time being the team at Shetland Arts have been busy creating content for social media. This includes a weekly storytime session for bairns and regular at-home film and music recommendations on their Facebook page.

The Travelling Art Teacher and Da Local Yokel

Indulge you and your family's crafty side by trying art projects from The Travelling Art Teacher and Da Local Yokel, both of whom are sharing videos and tutorials on their Facebook pages on how to make things from household items. A fantastic way to keep kids creative and busy while stuck indoors.
