Airlines correspond schedules to bring new connections to Amsterdam from Shetland via Inverness-

Flybe and franchise partner, Loganair have co-ordinated their respective schedules to create new connections from Shetland to Amsterdam via Inverness, while also providing onward connecting flights to destinations across the world from the Dutch hub.

Beginning on October 29, as part of the airline's winter schedule, flights during the week will connect for both south and northbound passengers. The timetabling enhancements will give travellers in Shetland more options for commuting to the mainland, as well as opening up increased potential for linking with European business partners.

Flybe will operate the week-day services between Inverness and Amsterdam using their Embraer 175 jet. The connecting schedule is:

Shetland/Amsterdam Amsterdam/Shetland

Dep Arr Dep Arr

Mo/Tu/We/Th/Fr 0740 1500 1535 1920

Passengers will have a 2 hour 40 minute connection in Inverness before boarding the Flybe jet to Amsterdam, with a 1 hour 5 minute connection on the return before flying back to Shetland with Loganair.

Phil Preston, chief operating officer at Loganair, said: “Our Amsterdam connection will be extremely popular amongst both business and leisure travellers from Shetland, particularly when considering how attractive the Dutch city is as a destination.

“Schiphol airport offers an extended network of transfers across the world, which Loganair and Flybe customers will be able to take advantage of. Furthermore, Amsterdam has plenty to offer tourists as the city is steeped in culture.

“This coordination is yet another benefit for customers of the Loganair and Flybe franchise relationship.”

Flybe UK Managing Director, Andrew Strong adds: “Flybe is committed to "Making flying better" for our passengers. This is a prime example of how, having listened carefully to the needs of our passengers, we have worked successfully with our franchise partner Loganair in facilitating a key benefit for our passengers and make possible such an important connection to and from one of the key aviation gateways of the world.”

Deborah Leggate from Promote Shetland said "We're always delighted to hear of any transport developments which make Shetland a more accessible destination so this is a welcome announcement from Loganair.

“Having improved connections with Europe through Amsterdam opens up many possibilities for visitors coming to Shetland or travelling onward from Shetland."
