  • Cheryl Jamieson - Meet your Maker 2015
By Kirsty HalcrowMay 12th 2015

As part of the Malakoff exhibition at Bonhoga Gallery, Cheryl Jamieson of Glansin Glass will be spending the weekend of 16 and 17 May at Bonhoga, working and meeting people as part of Craft Scotland's nationwide event, Meet Your Maker. The event, now in its third year, invites members of the public to come along to galleries and meet craft makers, observe them at work and ask questions about their practice

Glass artist Cheryl, was born and brought up in Unst, the most northerly of the Shetland Islands, where she now runs a busy glass studio and retail outlet "Glansin Glass". She designs and hand makes unique kiln formed glassware, including jewellery, tableware and sculptural pieces.

She says: “Her work reflects the environment she lives in which is rich in heritage, archaeology and geology.”

Angela Smith, of Shetland Arts, said:

“The Meet Your Maker event at Bonhoga is a great opportunity to meet the maker behind the work and to ask questions about their inspirations, processes and techniques. Cheryl Jamiesons" glasswork is diverse, rich with detail and colour and the opportunity to see how it"s made, shouldn"t be missed.”

Meet Your Maker is a national celebration of Scottish craft and its makers. Meet your Maker aims to showcase the skill, quality and creativity of Scotland's talented makers. For 2015 they have partnered with many venues throughout Scotland who will offer Meet Your Maker events as part of their own annual programmes. Each unique event will coincide with exhibitions, festivals or be part of a dedicated Meet Your Maker residency. During the events, makers give a rare behind the scenes look at their craft work.
