  • Sumburgh Head Project Goes 'Live'
By Deborah LeggateSeptember 20th 2012

The new webcam at Sumburgh Head went live this week, as building and restoration work continues to gather pace.

Visitors to the website at www.sumburghhead.com can now view real time images from the site and see up to the minute progress on the new Education Centre. The camera has been fitted to the rail of the light tower to give a view over the area, and line of sight along the coast towards Jarlshof. Lead partners, Shetland Amenity Trust, are grateful to the Northern Lighthouse Board for their assistance in this.

In addition to the live camera, which will be updated with a new image every minute, there will also be a time-lapse sequence where viewers can see footage from the previous 24 hours edited into a 2-3 minute video clip.

Existing webcams operated by Promote Shetland will continue to stream footage also. The "Cliff Cam" provides close up views of the birdlife on the RSPB Nature Reserve, with the "Sumburgh Head Cam" streaming wider views of the area. These cameras can be viewed at at the Shetland Webcams website.
