Scottish Hydro Electric Power distribution (SHEPD) has launched a major national consultation on the laying of subsea cables to Scottish islands. For Shetland, this is a crucial aspect of any future renewables developments in wind, wave or tidal generation and a public event will be held as part of this consultation on 1 October at the Shetland Museum and Archives in Lerwick. SHEPD is working with the energy regulator OFGEM and the Scottish Government body overseeing maritime developments, Marine Scotland.

Members of the public are encouraged to participate. Full details of how, and a video about the consultation are available from SHEPD here.
