by Deborah Leggate -

Shetland Arts & Crafts Association were represented by three of its full members in last weekends Ideal Homes Show Scotland at the SECC in Glasgow. Burra Bears, Jane P Jacobs and Paparwark furniture, who are also part of the Shetland Craft Trail, were individually invited to send work down to be displayed in the Prince's Foundation House, influenced, inspired and opened by HRH The Prince of Wales, the Arts & Crafts House aims to showcase its ability to be both beautiful and sustainable. Inside, it houses an array of decorative and functional items crafted by partners and collaborators, including the Prince's School for Traditional Arts, the Building Craft Apprentices and a wide selection of suppliers.

Jane Jacobs who sent down a collage and 5 paintings said, "this is great opportunity for me, I don't think it would have happened without the Shetland Arts & Crafts website".

Shetland was represented in grand style by Cecil Tait from Paparwark furniture in the form of his Shetland Chair, a stunning piece from a master craftsman.

Ian Gidney, Chairman of Shetland Arts & Crafts Association said, "we are absolutely delighted that 3 of our members were hand picked to be showcased to such a huge audience, the Ideal Homes Show which attracts 44,000 visitors over 4 days, gives fantastic exposure and will be a great benefit to our incredibly talented makers, Wendy Inkster from Burra Bears has already had enquiries".
