Learn About Shetland

Faith
Shetland is home to people of many faiths and of none. All are welcome. The islands have no tradition of religious extremes or religious intolerance; the atmosphere is very much one of live and let live, an attitude that extends into other spheres too. Unlike some parts of Scotland, you will find little overt display of religion and no attempt by one group to impose a particular lifestyle on any other.
The largest faith group is Christian and several strands, including Presbyterian,
Anglican and Roman Catholic are represented. However, we have followers of most
world faiths including Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Bahá'í and Buddhism.
Other approaches and philosophies, for example Paganism and Humanism, have adherents
too.
