The Sumburgh Lighthouse, Visitor Centre & Nature Reserve are now open to the public. New visitor centre attractions include The Engine Room containing the three large engines which provide the power for the foghorn. Visitors who have purchased a ticket will begin their journey through Sumburgh Head's past. The Smiddy continues this theme exploring life at Sumburgh Head for the Lighthouse Keepers and their families. While the East Radar Hut discovers how officers stationed here during WW II played a significant part in the defence of the British Home Fleet.

A major new attraction includes the Marine Life Centre. Split on two floors, explore another world as light, sound, movement and visuals create an environment inhabited by a mix of nature from zooplankton to Minke Whales. The Education Centre is a new build component, with a spectacular curved glass view. Education and lifelong learning are at the core of the Sumburgh Head project.
